6/03/2024 McCook City Council Meeting

-Public Pool to open July

by opengovmedia

Key takeaways:

  • (2:36) One of McCook City Fire Department’s ambulances receives funding for new Telehealth system

This system consists of a tablet and two speakers. This system allows them to make contact with nurses, paramedics etc if someone on site doesn’t have the proper info for how to stabilize the patient until they get to the hospital. The service is free to McCook, one of 20 communities to receive such from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services which themselves are using a $1.3 million dollar ‘initiative’ funded by the CDC disparities grant, but after the free ‘trial’ of one year the state will try to raise funding for 4 more years.  The price sounds somewhat exploitive to us for communities who can’t afford such services to begin with.

  • (6:20) Swimming Pool may be done by July 1
  • Needs lifeguards in order to extend swimming season!

Pool needs 9 guards to be working at ‘peak performance.’ Please go to the YMCA if you’d like to be a lifeguard.

  • (12:09) Ballpark land purchase agreement to come up within the next month

City officials have been in negotiations with John Walters and are sending the 1st draft of the purchase agreement to Mr. Walters soon and should have that back for review at the next council meeting in two weeks or the first week of July. The city will use money set aside from 2022 election and other money found in the general fund to purchase land

  • City wages overall may be too low to entice new workers as compared to other nearby cities
